West Country duo to bring midwinter tour to Sixpenny Handley

ONE of the UK’s most respected folk musicians is returning to Sixpenny Handley as part of a midwinter tour.

Miranda Sykes is returning to the village hall on Common Road at 7pm on December 14.

This time she will be bringing her latest collaborator, Jim Causley, an acclaimed singer-songwriter and musician who has been described as an all-round entertainer with a unique voice and persona.

He has become one of the most well-loved and respected figures of today’s contemporary roots and folk scene and was described by Mojo Magazine as “the finest singer of his generation” and West Country father of folk, Geoff Lakeman, described him in a recent interview in the Western Morning News as possessing ‘a voice in a million’.

Miranda Sykes has a career spanning nearly three decades, and she has performed alongside many of the genre’s leading figures, including two decades as double bassist and vocalist with ‘Show of Hands’.

Organisers said: “Join Miranda and Jim for a celebration of the festive season featuring some gorgeous West Country carols, medieval and secular carols from around the British Isles, poignant settings of Christmas poems by Cornish poet Charles Causley and selected seasonal songs by contemporary UK folk songwriters.

“The evening promises outstanding performances by two of Britain’s most celebrated folk voices, accompanied by various instruments and complemented by a warm, festive atmosphere.

“For those seeking respite from the commercialisation of the holiday season, the evening offers a unique journey through traditional Christmas music sure to inspire festive spirit.”

Tickets cost: £15 plus booking fee and can be purchased online here. Home cooked food will also be available and can be pre-ordered via the same link.
