THE YOUNG Gallery in Salisbury will exhibit a selection of artworks by the local artist collective Group 7 from next month.
The free exhibition gets underway in Gallery 2 from January 16 until April 25, offering a unique opportunity to see diverse works by varied artists in one space.
Work on display explores colour and mark making, giving visitors the opportunity to view paintings, sculpture and printmaking.
Group 7 consists of artists Brian Bishop, Martyn Brewster, Bonnie Brown, Michelle Griffiths, Ursula Leach, Stephen Powell and Peter Symons.
They are all long-term practitioners who have a strong commitment to the media of drawing, painting and printmaking.
Deputy leader of Wiltshire Council and cabinet member for communities, engagement, and corporate services Cllr Mel Jacob said: “The Young Gallery remains a welcoming space where people can enjoy free access to a fantastic collection of artwork.
“I’m pleased to have a Wiltshire Council-supported gallery that provides great artwork for the community. Each new exhibition brings fresh excitement, and we’re delighted to showcase the creativity of Group 7 in all its varied forms.”
Curator and gallery manager Dr Emily Dunbar added: “This exhibition enables the Young Gallery to show contemporary art by working artists.
“Group 7 are an established group, some of whom are featured in the Young Gallery’s permanent collection, and we are pleased to continue this relationship.”
Group 7 said: “It has been a wonderful opportunity to exhibit at the Young Gallery. We hope visitors will see how colour and mark making carry meaning and significance.”
