Winter bites: Freezing temperatures and snow possible in Salisbury this New Year

SALISBURY is set to welcome 2026 with a chilly start and wintery showers on the way, according to the latest Met Office forecast.

After earlier reports predicted snow yesterday (Tuesday, January 6), which failed to materialise, residents can still expect frosty conditions over the coming days.

Today (Wednesday, December 31), temperatures are expected to range between a high of 3°C and a low of -2°C, with a slim 5% chance of snow.

New Year’s Day is forecast to begin cloudy, but sunshine should break through by mid-morning. Residents may see some rain showers around 4pm, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 4°C.

Looking ahead, Friday (January 2) brings a 20% chance of snow at 7am with conditions feeling below freezing.

Saturday (January 3) is expected to remain cold with temperatures feeling like -2°C in bright and breezy weather, and a 10% chance of snow in the early hours.

Sunday (January 4) continues the chilly trend with a 20% chance of snow around 8pm and temperatures reaching 3°C, though still feeling like 0°C.

The Met Office predicts that freezing temperatures will persist into the start of next week, including a 10% chance of wintry showers on Monday (January 5) evening at 9pm.

With temperatures hovering around freezing, residents are advised to stay prepared for icy roads and pavements, and to wrap up warm if heading outdoors.

Even a light dusting of snow could bring a wintry sparkle to the city, making for a crisp, cold start to the new year.
