Start summer early and raise vital funds for hospice charity

JANUARY may be known for dark mornings and dreary weather but Salisbury Hospice Charity is determined to bring a splash of colour and a dose of summer cheer to the middle of winter.

On Friday, January 30, workplaces, schools and individuals across the region are being invited to ditch the jumpers and embrace a tropical twist with Flip Flops and Flowers, a fun, feel-good alternative to the traditional Christmas jumper day.

The idea is simple: wear something floral, bright or boldly summery and make a small donation to support the hospice’s vital work.

Think Hawaiian shirts, flowery dresses, colourful sunglasses or a cheerful sunhat.

Footwear is optional, but for the brave, flip flops or sliders are actively encouraged, weather permitting.

The charity hopes the day will lift spirits during what can be a tough month for many, while also raising much-needed funds.

Businesses are being urged to get creative by decorating offices with a summer theme or hosting a sunshine-inspired bake sale to boost donations.

A minimum contribution of £1 is suggested for everyone taking part.

All money raised will go directly towards supporting patients and families cared for by Salisbury Hospice, which provides specialist palliative and end of life care to people across the community.

Organisers say the event is not just about fundraising, but also about bringing people together and spreading positivity at a time of year when motivation can run low.

Participants are also being encouraged to share their efforts online.

Photos of the most colourful outfits, brightest offices and boldest fashion choices can be posted on social media using the hashtag #FLIPFLOPSANDFLOWERS, helping to spread the message further.

Businesses and individuals who want to take part can find more information and register via the Salisbury Hospice Charity website.
