New flood alert issued for Salisbury and surrounding areas

A FLOOD alert has just been issued for parts of Wiltshire as river levels remain high following recent rainfall.

The Environment Agency said flooding is possible along the Upper Hampshire Avon and its tributaries, particularly in areas between Upavon and Salisbury.

The alert is in force for today (Tuesday, January 27), with rising river levels increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying locations close to the watercourses.

The agency said it is closely monitoring conditions and warned that further impacts are possible as water levels remain elevated.

Residents and anyone travelling through affected areas are being urged to take care and to avoid walking, cycling or driving through floodwater.

The flood alert is expected to be reviewed and updated by 11.45am tomorrow (Wednesday, January 28), or sooner if the situation changes.
