Drug-driver arrested at taser point after attempting to flee

A MAN from Salisbury who tried to flee police after being stopped for driving without an MOT has been banned from the roads for three years.

Steven Barham, 36, of Gainsborough Close, was pulled over by Roads Policing officers on July 30 last year before attempting to escape through Bemerton Heath.

He drove off the road and down a grassy slope before abandoning his vehicle and running to his flat.

Officers pursued him on foot and arrested him at taser point.

Despite telling police he had not used cocaine “in donkey’s years”, Barham tested positive for both cocaine and cannabis.

At Salisbury Magistrates’ Court, he admitted careless driving, failing to stop for police, drug driving, driving without insurance and driving without a valid MOT.
