Community comes together for heart-warming children’s tea party

SMILES, laughter and a touch of Wonderland magic filled the air in Amesbury as families came together for a special event supporting children with life-limiting illnesses.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, held on 14 March, welcomed more than 25 young people and their families for an afternoon designed to lift spirits and create lasting memories.

Organised by Wessex and Buzz Action, the event transformed an ordinary day into something truly extraordinary.

From colourful entertainment to a warm community atmosphere, the day was packed with moments of joy.

A standout highlight was a lively performance from Wessex Circus, alongside a range of activities that kept children engaged and smiling throughout.

Mayor of Amesbury, Cllr Dr Monica Devendran, attended the event and praised the effort behind it.

Mayor of Amesbury, Cllr Dr Monica Devendran, has praised the community.

She said: “It was truly uplifting to see so much joy, courage and community spirit. My heartfelt thanks to the organisers and volunteers for creating such a special experience for these wonderful children and their families.”

Behind the scenes, the event was powered by a strong network of local support.

Volunteers, community groups and businesses all played a role in bringing the day together.

The Amesbury Community Bingo Group raised £575 in February as part of the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, helping to fund the celebration.

Additional support came from volunteers including Jeff Coy, Maureen Swaffield, Laura Allies from Tesco, and the Christ the King hospitality team.

Guests also enjoyed a generous buffet provided by Little House in Amesbury, adding to the welcoming atmosphere.

More than just a party, organisers say the event was about connection, comfort and creating positive experiences for families facing difficult circumstances.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party is now being hailed as a shining example of how a community can come together to make a real difference – proving that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a big impact.
