A NEW healthcare service aiming to bring hospital-level treatment into people’s homes is set to launch – with a highly experienced nurse at the helm.
Abicare, the Salisbury-headquartered homecare provider, is preparing to roll out its Hospital@Home service across the South West and South Wales next month.
The initiative is designed to ease pressure on hospitals by supporting patients recently discharged, allowing them to receive complex care in the comfort of their own homes.
Leading the clinical side of the project is Rebecca Williams, who brings two decades of healthcare experience to the role.
From frontline nursing to senior leadership positions, her career has spanned everything from emergency care to occupational health, including roles with National Grid and Barchester Healthcare.
She has also led major projects, from building multi-site health services to rolling out nationally recognised mental health support initiatives.
Now, she will oversee the safe delivery of care as the new service gets underway, while helping shape its future as it expands across the UK.
Rebecca said: “Nursing and healthcare are in my bones; it is who I am. Supporting patients, whether in hospital, at home or within the community is a privilege and I find it both meaningful and incredibly rewarding.
“Hospital@Home combines everything that I care about; high quality clinical care, patient-centred practice, innovation and the chance to make a real difference, both to individuals and also the NHS, and I’m excited to be part of shaping this forward-thinking new service.”
The service aims to give patients greater choice while freeing up hospital beds – something health leaders say is increasingly important.
Steve Carter, chief commercial officer at Abicare, said: “Launching soon, Hospital@Home is a modern solution to a long-standing challenge, adding extra capacity to our healthcare system and providing support and choice for both hospitals and patients.
“I’m delighted that Rebecca has joined us and am really looking forward to working alongside her to develop and grow Hospital@Home.”
With demand on the NHS continuing to grow, the success of schemes like this could play a key role in how care is delivered in the future.
