A NEW community café in Amesbury is already bringing smiles, conversation and a sense of belonging to people who often struggle to find inclusive social spaces locally.
Latte and Laughter has launched at The New Inn, offering a welcoming environment for adults with learning disabilities and autism to meet, chat and build friendships.
The initiative was set up to address a gap in the town, with organisers noting that while nearby places like Salisbury and Chippenham host regular events, opportunities in Amesbury have been limited.
Running every Thursday from 10.30am to 12.30pm on a four-week trial, the café is already gaining momentum.
Organisers say the aim is simple – to create a regular, friendly space where people can feel comfortable and included.
Accessibility has also been a key focus.
Although the New Inn is a listed building, wheelchair ramps have been introduced to help ensure as many people as possible can take part.
The launch was attended by mayor Cllr Dr Monica Devendran, who praised the initiative and its impact on the community.

Mayor Cllr Dr Monica Devendran is thrilled Latte and Laughter has opened.
She said: “It was a pleasure to attend the launch of Latte and Laughter – Social Café at The New Inn, Amesbury.
“This is a fantastic initiative, providing a welcoming and inclusive space for people with learning disabilities to come together, build connections, and strengthen our community. Creating opportunities for social inclusion is essential in supporting confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
“I would like to commend everyone involved, particularly South Wilts Mencap, for their dedication and continued commitment to supporting residents across Amesbury.
Initiatives like this demonstrate the very best of our community spirit, and I look forward to seeing it develop and make a lasting difference.”
With its relaxed atmosphere and strong community backing, Latte and Laughter is already proving that sometimes the simplest ideas – a cup of coffee and a chat – can make the biggest difference.
