POLICE say a group of drivers appeared to be filming their own version of Top Gear after reports of anti-social driving on a popular New Forest road.

Ringwood neighbourhood officers were called to Roger Penny Way at around 2.30pm yesterday after reports of four vehicles being driven dangerously.

Officers moved in and managed to stop two of the vehicles, while two others failed to pull over.

One driver was issued with a traffic offence report and handed a Section 59 warning, meaning police can seize the vehicle if anti-social driving happens again.

The remaining drivers are set to receive Notices of Intended Prosecution.

But it was what police discovered next that raised eyebrows.

According to officers, the lead vehicle was allegedly acting as a “camera car”, with someone sitting in the boot filming the convoy behind.

PC Bigland, from Ringwood’s neighbourhood policing team, said: “I can only assume they believed they were taking part in their very own, poorly scripted Top Gear.”

Police say speeding and dangerous driving on Roger Penny Way continue to be tackled robustly, warning that anti-social driving poses risks not only to other road users but also to wildlife in the New Forest.
