DRIVERS are facing long delays around Amesbury this morning after a serious crash forced the closure of part of the A303.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.30am following a road traffic collision on the major route.
One person has been taken to hospital for treatment for injuries believed to be serious, police said.
The A303 remains closed eastbound from the Countess roundabout, including access to Solstice Services.
Westbound closures are also in place at Parkhouse roundabout while emergency services deal with the incident.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible and allow extra time for journeys, with congestion expected around Amesbury and surrounding roads.
Amesbury Police said the road would reopen “as soon as possible” and thanked drivers for their patience while the incident is dealt with.

We hope that the driver involved in the accident makes a full recovery. We were returning to France via Portsmouth when we came upon the incident. The vehicles involved around us in the congestion near Amesbury were patient and courteous. It made quite a change in today’s world! We shall take the same route via Salisbury again in future years.
