YOUNG people in Salisbury are being invited to play a direct role in shaping the future of their city in a creative workshop exploring architecture, art and urban design.

Shaping our Future will take place from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, May 27 at Salisbury Arts Centre in Bedwin Street.

The event is aimed at people aged 13 to 25 with an interest in design, culture, architecture, art and community development.

It offers participants the chance to work alongside artists, architects and creative professionals to develop ideas about how the city could evolve.

The workshop is being delivered by See Space Differently CIC, working with partners including Scrace Architects, Wiltshire Creative and other collaborators from the creative sector.

Organisers say the session will give young people a platform to design, test and present ideas, with a focus on encouraging dialogue between participants, professionals and decision-makers.

Rather than simply discussing change, attendees will be encouraged to actively design proposals and explore how creative thinking can influence real places.

The workshop also connects to Shape & Shift, a new participatory sculpture by artist and architect Tim Scrace, which invites the public to physically engage with and influence the artwork.

Organisers say the aim is to create space for experimentation and “genuine civic voice”, allowing young people to contribute to wider conversations about culture, community and the built environment.

The project has been supported by RIBA South West and Wiltshire Creative, who are hosting the workshop.

Participants will also have the opportunity to present their ideas at the end of the session.

A wider programme of creative placemaking events is planned, with the official launch of See Space Differently CIC set for July 17.

Further workshops and pop-up activities are expected to follow across the city.
