MORE than 100 classic and modern cars took to the roads around Salisbury in support of the Stars Appeal with this year’s Boys’ Treasured Toys event expected to raise more than £15,000.
Around 250 people joined the ninth annual fundraising road run for Salisbury Hospital’s charity on Tuesday, June 23, bringing together an impressive collection of vehicles including Humbers, Alfa Romeos, Bentleys, Morgans, Jeeps and vintage Land Rovers.
The event began at Wilton House where Stars Appeal president the Earl of Pembroke welcomed participants before they set off on a picturesque 100-mile route through the Wiltshire countryside.
Drivers of older vehicles had the option of taking a shorter, more relaxed route.
Along the way, participants stopped for a picnic overlooking Martha’s Down before enjoying afternoon tea and a visit to the Countryside Museum at Breamore House.
Guests also heard from patient ambassador Louise Bennett, who shared how Stars Appeal-funded projects, including accommodation for parents on the Neonatal Unit, helped her and her baby son during a difficult time and inspired her own fundraising efforts.
Organised by Louise Hall, Matthew Pickford and Nick Combes, the event has now raised more than £70,000 since it first began.
Lead organiser and Stars Appeal fundraising committee member Louise Hall said: “We were delighted to see such a strong turnout this year, with even more participants joining us.
“A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event, including our wonderful hosts, for making the day so special. We are delighted to continue helping patients and their families at Salisbury Hospital when they need it most.”
Funds raised will support Stars Appeal projects across Salisbury Hospital, including new medical equipment, improvements to hospital facilities, free Wi-Fi and enhanced care for cancer patients and their families.
