SALISBURY’S independent businesses are taking centre stage this month as more than 70 shopfronts are transformed into works of art for Indies Week 2026.
The week-long celebration, organised by Salisbury Business Improvement District (BID), runs from today to July 7 and shines a spotlight on the city’s thriving independent business community.
In one of the campaign’s most eye-catching features, local artist Michele Millidge has hand-painted bespoke illustrations on the windows of 70 businesses across the city centre.

Each unique design includes a “Love Salisbury Indies” message, creating an open-air art trail that shoppers can enjoy while discovering shops, cafés and businesses.
The initiative aims to encourage residents and visitors to spend locally throughout July, helping independents that play a vital role in Salisbury’s economy and character.

Visitors are also being encouraged to share their favourite independent businesses on social media, explore new shops and follow the City of Independents campaign throughout the month.
Salisbury BID chief executive Eleanor Burke said: “Our independent businesses are integral to what makes Salisbury such a vibrant, distinctive and welcoming city.
“That’s why we’re delighted to have commissioned over 70 hand-painted indie business windows – head out, explore the unique illustrations and discover Salisbury’s fantastic independents this July!”
