Booking system to be rolled out at recycling centres – including Salisbury

PEOPLE visiting six recycling centres in Wiltshire – including Salisbury – will be required to book their slot as a new pilot scheme is rolled out in the autumn.

Wiltshire Council is introducing a booking system at six of its Household Recycling Centres (HRCs).

The authority said the system aims to “help reduce queuing, improve the customer experience, and minimise disruption for nearby communities and businesses”.

Residents will be able to make bookings from September 8, with visits by appointment only beginning on September 14 at HRCs in Devizes, Lower Compton, Melksham, Purton, Salisbury, and Stanton St Quintin.

The pilot will allow initially residents to book a 30-minute slot up to a week in advance, with some same-day appointments available.

“The length of slots will be regularly reviewed to ensure we have maximum capacity available at sites,” a council spokesperson said.

“The new system is designed to make visits more convenient by helping to manage demand and reduce waiting times, particularly during busy periods.

“The introduction of the booking system will not affect existing opening hours, permit requirements, or accepted waste types.”

People unable to access or use the online service can contact Wiltshire Council’s Rubbish and Recycling line for assistance in making a booking.

Cllr Paul Sample JP, cabinet member for environment, climate and waste, said: “We want our Household Recycling Centres to provide the best possible experience for residents. By managing demand more effectively, we expect to reduce queues, make visits more convenient and lessen the impact on surrounding communities and local businesses.

“The pilot is about improving how the service operates, but the service itself is not changing. Residents will still be able to dispose of the same types of waste; opening hours will remain the same and any existing permit requirements will continue to apply.

“We’ll be promoting the new system over the coming months and encourage residents to find out more and plan ahead before the pilot begins in September.”
