FAMILIES will from today (May 23) be able to help create a temporary adventure playground at Stonehenge – designed by visitors.
English Heritage is once again inviting children and adults this May half-term to grab hammers, saws, nails, and wood to construct Playhenge.
The event sees English Heritage partner with the UK’s masters of constructive play – Woodland Tribe – to help children and families collaborate and create an ever-evolving, imaginative structure, just as the builders of Stonehenge did 5,000 years ago.
Julia Richardson, operations manager at Stonehenge, said: “Playhenge is a one-of-a-kind experience that allows our visitors to connect with the spirit of creativity and collaboration that has inspired humans for millennia.
“By providing tools and materials for DIY play this half term, we aim to offer a contemporary twist on the timeless wonder of Stonehenge, inviting families to build, play, and create unique memories together.”

Inspired by the spirit of collaboration and innovation that may have guided the original builders of Stonehenge, Playhenge offers a hands-on experience bridging the gap between ancient and modern-day construction and play.
Children of all ages will have the opportunity to design and build their own Playhenge, fostering creativity and teamwork in a playful and engaging environment.
An English Heritage spokesperson said: “Let your imaginations run wild as we construct an amazing temporary adventure playground at the Stonehenge visitor centre this May half term.
“In this exciting event, real tools will be safely used by children and their adults to build the play structure of their dreams using natural materials.”
