Chris Harrison named Wilton’s 633rd mayor

WILTON has officially welcomed its new mayor and deputy mayor for the 2026-2027 civic year following the town council’s annual meeting.

Councillors voted to appoint Cllr Chris Harrison as the town’s 633rd mayor, with Cllr Charlotte Blackman elected as deputy mayor.

The historic role of mayor in Wilton dates back to 1256 – two years before the main body of Salisbury Cathedral was completed – with William Isembard recorded as the town’s first mayor.

Cllr Harrison and Cllr Blackman had already stepped into the roles earlier this year after former mayor Cllr Boyd stood down.

Now officially elected for the full civic year, the pair will lead the council and represent Wilton at events across the town and wider community.

A spokesperson said: “Huge congratulations to both of them.

“They now have the opportunity to fulfill a full year in their respective roles, leading the Council and representing our wonderful town. We hope they both have a fantastic year!”

As part of tradition, the mayor will also choose a local charity to support during the year through fundraising events and community activities.

Cllr Harrison’s chosen charity is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
