ELDERLY people who might usually dine alone are being invited to join residents and staff at a Salisbury care home for some food and friendship.
Milford House is opening it’s doors to people from the community to help tackle loneliness, welcoming those usually dining alone from 12.30pm to 2pm each Wednesday and Friday for a three-course meal as part of a Don’t Dine Alone scheme.
Diners will be treated to a tasty lunch in the home’s dining room, with the chance to chat to the home’s staff and residents while enjoying their food, as well as being able to take part in afternoon activities if they wish.
The home’s head chef will be producing a range of dishes to cover varied individual dietary needs and preferences, so diners were able to eat to their fill accompanied with a wide selection of beverages.
The Don’t Dine Alone initiative was launched by care provider Barchester Healthcare as a way to reach out to isolated or vulnerable members of the communities around its care homes.
Abhishek Bagchi, general manager at Milford House, said: “Loneliness can be a big problem for elderly people, especially as the weather gets colder. Our doors are always open to new friends of the home.”
