Don’t miss free swims this Easter

WITH the Easter holidays now underway, families across Wiltshire are being urged to make a splash and take advantage of swimming sessions and free offers at their leisure centres.

Wiltshire Council says its pools are packed with opportunities this spring, from family fun sessions and lane swimming to parent-and-child activities, offering something for all ages and abilities.

And for many households, there’s an extra incentive to dive in.

The council’s free swimming initiative has returned, giving eligible children who receive benefits-related free school meals one free swim per week during school holidays – up to 13 sessions across the year.

Cabinet member for communities Cllr Mel Jacob said: “Spring is a great time for residents to refresh their routines, and swimming is one of the most welcoming and inclusive activities offered in our leisure centres.

“It brings lots of benefits from supporting overall fitness and mobility to boosting confidence in the water and providing a calm space to unwind.

“With such a wide range of sessions and lessons available, there is something for all ages and abilities and all our pools are accessible to all. I’d encourage residents to contact their local centre to see what’s on offer.”

Cabinet member for children’s services Cllr Jon Hubbard added: “The free swimming initiative is a really positive offer for eligible children and their families.

“It gives young people the opportunity to stay active and have fun at their local leisure centre during the school holidays, and we’re pleased to be able to offer this to them.

“The scheme also helps children build confidence in the water while taking part in an activity that’s both enjoyable and beneficial.

“We hope those who are eligible will make the most of the offer and enjoy their time in the pool.”

Residents can check timetables and book sessions online, with popular holiday slots expected to fill quickly.
