A DRIVER is alleged to have fled police who tried to stop a vehicle near a McDonald’s after reports they may be intoxicated.
Police were alerted to the motorist, in the area of the fast-food outlet in Ringwood Road, Ferndown, at around 9.45pm last night (April 8).
When they arrived, the officers tried to stop the vehicle – a grey Honda CRV – in the nearby Halfords car park, but it made off.
“The vehicle is reported to have travelled along the A31 dual carriageway in the wrong direction before crossing the grass central reservation and driving back on the correct side of the road towards St Leonards,” a Dorset Police spokesperson said.
“The vehicle was reportedly subsequently located unoccupied nearby.”
Detective Constable David Williams, of Dorset Police, said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries into this incident and I am keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.
“I would also urge motorists who were in the vicinity around the relevant time to please review any dashcam footage for anything that might assist our investigation.”
A 21-year-old man from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences, police said.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting reference 55260049900, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
