FAMILIES with young people learning to swim are being offered money off lessons as part of a special back-to-school initiative.
Throughout September, Wiltshire Council is aiming to help young people make a splash, waiving the £25 administration fee on all new swimming lesson sign-ups at its pools across the county – including in Salisbury.
The limited-time offer aims to make it easier for children to take up swimming and build water confidence, learn an important life skill, make new friends and work towards badges and certificates.
The council said its Aqualetes swimming lesson programme “supports children from their very first introduction to the water through to more advanced stages”, with qualified instructors on hand to give expert guidance.
“Together with the council’s Make a Splash campaign promoting casual swimming sessions, the programme is helping more residents enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of being active in the water,” a spokesperson said.
Adult swimming lessons are also available for those looking to improve their confidence, learn a new skill or return to swimming.

Cllr Mel Jacob, cabinet member for communities, engagement and corporate services at Wiltshire Council, said: “September is the perfect time for families to try something new or return to a regular activity after the summer holidays.
“Swimming is an essential life skill that can benefit people throughout their lives, and our Aqualetes programme provides a fun, safe and supportive environment where children can build confidence in the water and develop their skills week by week.
“By removing the £25 administration fee throughout September, we’re making it even easier and more affordable for families to get started. Whether your child is taking their first swimming lessons or you’re looking to enrol them in a structured programme to develop their skills, now is a great time to sign up.
“We also offer lessons for adults who may be looking to improve their swimming ability or gain confidence in the water, so there’s something for everyone.”
