Fire service stage dramatic training exercise at Salisbury Cathedral

A LARGE-SCALE fire service presence was seen at Salisbury Cathedral yesterday (April 24) – but luckily there was no emergency.

The cathedral hosted crews from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to test how they would respond to a fire there.

Crews drew water from the nearby River Avon and Wiltshire College & University Centre students acted as casualties that needed to be rescued.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “The aerial ladder platform is an essential element of an incident like this, as it can be used to bring any casualty to safety via a window, rather than using the steep and narrow stairs within the building.

“Many thanks to everyone who supported this training!”
