Flats planned for former Durrington Library site

THE former Durrington Library site could be demolished to make way for four new flats, plans reveal.

The library, which was housed in a well-used porta cabin, moved from its former site at 75 Bulford Road to its new home at the Robinson Room at Durrington Village Hall back in 2023 after the previous site reached the end of its structural life.

Salisbury-based DJH Property Services subsequently bought the former library site in late 2024 from Wiltshire Council.

The company has now submitted plans which would see the porta cabin demolished to make way for four one-bed flats, complete with four car parking spaces.

Benchmark Development Planning Ltd, who submitted the plans on behalf of the applicant, said the porta cabin is in “very poor condition” and that the proposal would help meet local housing need.
