A DETERMINED Army mum based on Salisbury Plain is preparing to take on one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges this weekend, after battling back from serious injury and surgery.
Sgt Aishlen Taylor will line up for the London Marathon on Sunday, raising money for charities that have supported her family through military life.
Her journey to the start line has been anything but straightforward.
After securing a ballot place, Aishlen was forced to defer her 2025 entry due to a knee injury.
She has since undergone two operations, in September 2024 and January 2025, and was warned that completing a marathon would be unlikely.
Now, against the odds, she is ready.
Despite admitting that running is “not my thing”, Aishlen has pushed through months of recovery and training to prove she can do it.
She is raising funds for Little Troopers and Stars Appeal, both of which have played an important role in her family’s life.
Her two children have benefited from Little Troopers’ support, including activity days, residential weekends and deployment packs during periods of separation.

Aishlen explains: “Running is completely out of my comfort zone, I much prefer a quick gym workout, but after everything with my knees, I really wanted to prove to myself that I can do this.
“Little Troopers has supported our children in so many ways over the years, especially during the more challenging parts of military life. It means a lot to be able to give something back.”
So far, she has raised more than £1,050, helping support children from Armed Forces families who often face frequent moves and long periods apart from loved ones.
Louise Fetigan MBE, founder of Little Troopers, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Aishlen for taking on the London Marathon after everything she has been through.
“Her determination is inspiring, and the money she has raised will help us continue to provide vital support to children in military families. Thank you, Aishlen, from all of us at Little Troopers and all the little troopers out there!”
