Heavy Weather Warning

A WEATHER warning has been issued for snow and ice in Dorset – starting this evening.

The Met Office says snow could come overnight, with the yellow warning in place from 6pm until 10am tomorrow (Wednesday).
Temperatures could drop as low as -4C overnight across the south west, a forecaster warned.

“Wintry precipitation is likely to affect southern and western areas overnight, perhaps giving some slight accumulations of snow, mainly over higher ground,” they said.

“Probably dry elsewhere. Brisk easterly winds. Turning frosty.”

On Wednesday, ‘rain and snow remains possible’ they added, particularly in Cornwall and south Devon, but it will be ‘generally dry elsewhere’.

The weather warning says snow and ice could cause travel disruption in places.

The Met Office warns:
* Some roads and railways are likely to be affected, leading to longer journey times by car, as well as bus and train services
* Snow and sleet falling on frozen surfaces may lead to icy conditions, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries
* The combination of wind and snow may cause some drifting and very poor visibilities, especially over hills and moors
