RESIDENTS at a Wilton care home swapped the big screen for the tiny world of insects, enjoying a fascinating talk on “mini beasts” as Sir David Attenborough marked his 100th birthday.

Visitors and residents at Wilton Place Care Home gathered in the cinema room for a special presentation organised by Silver Salisbury, celebrating the remarkable wildlife that can often be found much closer to home than people realise.

Juliet, who delivered the talk, shared striking photographs taken in her own garden, revealing the surprising variety of insects and pollinators living in nearby green spaces.

The presentation sparked plenty of conversation among residents with many surprised by the hidden world buzzing around them.

The care home’s cinema room was buzzing!

Jean, a resident at Wilton Place, said: “I have had a wonderful time and found the presentation awfully interesting. I was not aware that there were around 250 types of bees!”

The event proved to be more than just an educational afternoon, giving residents the chance to reminisce about gardens they had kept over the years and the wildlife they remembered spotting in Wiltshire.

Staff at the home said welcoming local groups and speakers is an important part of helping residents stay connected to the wider community and continue discovering new interests.

Antoinette, manager at Wilton Place Care Home, said: “We are very lucky to have such a wonderful variety of local people who come and enrich the lives of our residents.”
