How to change a lightbulb – 123 metres up Salisbury Cathedral spire!

CHANGING a lightbulb at work might not seem the most daunting of tasks. However, for Gary Price, it gets a bit more involved.

Gary is clerk of works at Salisbury Cathedral, and the bulb he had to change was outside the cathedral’s 123 metre-high spire.

So, to complete his task, Gary had to climb up inside the tower, before exiting through a small door to make the final ascent on the outside – accompanied by Arthur Needham and Richard Pike.

“It’s a job that needs doing about once every four years,” a cathedral spokesperson said.

GOOD TO SEE OUT OF THE TRAP DOOR . I LAST SAW THIS IN OCTOBER 1986 WHEN I WAS WORKING AT SALSBURY AS A ASSISTANT CLERK OF WORKS. I REMEMBER GARY AS A YOUNG MAN. I AM NOW FULLY RETIRED AT 77 YEARS OF AGE.
