MORE than 700 young people and families turned out for a packed day of activities, adventure and community spirit at Amesbury’s Festival of Youth and Stonehenge Youth Fair.
Held at Harvard Park, the event transformed the recreation ground into a buzzing hub of sport, creativity and hands-on challenges, all designed to showcase the opportunities available to young people across the area.
From circus skills and archery to axe throwing, football and flight simulation, there was no shortage of things to try.

Young visitors also enjoyed shelter building, arts and crafts, CPR demonstrations and aerial activities, while local youth organisations and clubs spent the day encouraging teenagers and children to discover new hobbies and make connections in their community.
Organisers said by the end of the day, many had signed up to clubs and groups after trying activities for the first time.
Youth organisations described the response as overwhelmingly positive, with families staying for hours to explore the huge range of attractions on offer.

The event was arranged and funded by Wiltshire Council’s Stonehenge Area Board Local Youth Network, the Amesbury Youth Partnership and Amesbury Town Council.
Cllr Graham Wright, who led on the event from Stonehenge Area Board, said: “It was a team effort and would not have been possible without the enormous effort and enthusiasm shown by our volunteering youth groups.”
Wiltshire Council deputy leader Cllr Mel Jacob said it highlighted the importance of bringing communities together.
“The event showcased and celebrated the range of activities and opportunities available to young people in their local community,” she added.
“It’s lovely to hear that the atmosphere throughout was extremely positive, with families and young people enjoying the opportunity to spend time together.”
Following the success of the day, organisers are already exploring plans for another youth event later this year.
