A RURAL crime patrol saw an illegally-modified e-bike in Wilton after the rider tried to flee officers.
Wiltshire Police officers were on patrol in The Avenue as part of rural crime initiative Operation Ragwort, and on Tuesday night (September 8) Inspector Lemon and PC Higton seized the device.
A spokesperson said: “The bike was fitted with an 864-watt power unit, far exceeding the legal limit of 250 watts.”
The rider was reported for having no insurance and no driving licence, they said.
“They will be summonsed to court, and the bike will not be returned,” the spokesperson added.
“Many high-powered e-bikes can be easily purchased online, but that does not mean they are legal to use on the road. Before buying, please check that your e-bike complies with legislation.”
