Leisure centres achieve national accreditation

LEISURE centres across Wiltshire have been recognised among the best in the country after achieving a major national quality mark.

Wiltshire Council has announced that its leisure facilities have been awarded the Active Standard, a benchmark designed to highlight excellence in safety, inclusivity and day-to-day operations.

The accreditation, developed by ukactive alongside partners including Sport England, is only granted following a detailed independent assessment.

Inspectors examine everything from staff training and safeguarding procedures to risk management and how centres are run on a daily basis.

Once awarded, the standard lasts for three years.

For residents, it means reassurance that their local gym, pool or fitness class is operating to some of the highest standards in the sector.

Council leaders say the recognition reflects a long-term focus on creating welcoming spaces where people of all ages and abilities feel comfortable staying active, whether that’s swimming, joining a class or simply getting moving.

Cabinet member for communities, engagement and corporate services Cllr Mel Jacob said: “Achieving the ukactive Active Standard across all of our leisure centres is a fantastic milestone, and it reflects the incredibly high standards of safety, professionalism and care that our teams deliver every day.

“This accreditation offers reassurance to our residents that our centres provide safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces for everyone in Wiltshire. I want to thank all the staff involved for their hard work and dedication in achieving this recognition – it simply wouldn’t have been possible without them.

“As we continue to invest in our leisure offer, including the construction of the new state-of-the-art Trowbridge leisure centre, we remain committed to providing high-quality facilities that support healthier, more active communities for years to come.”

The council says it will continue to review and improve services, as it looks to build on the achievement and encourage more people to make use of local facilities.
