A SUMMER fayre that took visitors back in time raised a very modern £900 towards the restoration and expansion of a historic church.

St Peter’s Church, in Fugglestone, Wilton, held its Medieval Summer Fayre on Saturday, July 25, attracting scores of families, residents and history enthusiasts.

Boasting entertainment, including music from visiting organist Susan Pykett, Morris dancing and folk music by Sarum Morris, as well as traditional fairground games, cream teas, and a turn at soaking a few of the trustees in the stocks, the event raised more than £900 towards the ongoing church restoration and expansion for wider use by the community.

Neil Prigent, chair of trustees, said: “It was lovely to see so many of our friends and neighbours coming together to support our project to restore the church for wider use by the community.

“We raised over £900 at the event and are now awaiting news on our application for Lottery funding.”

The fair offered visitors a chance to see St Peter’s church in a festive light while supporting the church’s continued restoration efforts.
