A VILLAGE sports club has been left reeling after being targeted by “mindless idiots” who stole netting and damaged a clubhouse door.

Laverstock & Ford Sports Club said it was targeted some time overnight between Saturday (July 4) and the following morning.

A spokesperson for the venue, in Church Road, said people had stolen netting from the goals and caused damage to the front door.

“We found your vodka bottles on our property too,” they added. “No sign of the netting, hope it’s not in the river causing further problems. But it’s going to stop youth teams, adult teams from being out enjoying pre-season.”

They went on: “It’s stuff like this that really just makes you think ‘what’s the point?’ (It’s) not the first time. We’ve had damage to our cricket wicket and covers.”

They said they would be reviewing CCTV in a bid to identify the culprits.

The sports club is home to a range of teams, including for cricket and football.
