Motorbike rider arrested over ‘multiple offences’ on Ringwood trailway

POLICE used the element of surprise to catch a motorcyclist on a Hampshire walking, cycling and horse riding route.

While out on patrol on Friday (September 11) New Forest Police officers received information that a Sur-Ron style electric motorbike was being used on the Castleman Trailway in Ringwood.

The trailway was busy with people, including young children, walking on the pathway which is strictly designated for non-motorised transport.

Vehicles including motorbikes, dirt bikes, and mopeds are not permitted.

Despite attempts to evade capture, the rider was apprehended by officers. PC Ian Bigland, of Ringwood Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Officers positioned themselves out of sight to intercept the rider and managed to detain him as he tried to turn around to evade police.”

The bike was seized for having no insurance with the rider arrested for multiple offences.

PC Bigland added: “Every member of the public that walked past thanked us for our efforts so we are pleased that we are targeting issues that have the biggest impact on Ringwood residents.”
