Motorists face court after speeding crackdown

DRIVERS travelling at more than 50mph through Wiltshire villages have been caught in a major speeding crackdown.

New figures released by Wiltshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson reveal alarming levels of speeding in south Wiltshire with dozens of motorists caught ignoring 30mph limits in just a handful of enforcement sessions.

In Tilshead, community speed enforcement officers recorded 69 speeding drivers during just three 30-minute checks, with two motorists clocked at 52mph – almost double the legal limit.

Meanwhile in Wilton, 72 drivers were caught speeding in a single 70-minute session, including one driver travelling at 53mph through the town’s 30mph zone.

The figures are likely to reignite debate around speeding in rural communities where residents frequently raise concerns about dangerous driving, particularly through villages and built-up areas.

As a result of the latest enforcement activity, 117 drivers have been offered speed awareness courses, 19 fixed penalty notices have been issued, and five motorists are set to face court action.

Speeding remains one of the biggest complaints raised with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, according to Mr Wilkinson, who said road safety remains a major priority.

Shouldn’t the police be clear to see and not hidden behind the fence and verge as shown in the photo?

They’re hardly hiding are they, plus they’re in high Vis. If you can’t see that maybe you shouldn’t be driving
