Nominations confirmed for elections in Salisbury: Full list of candidates

VOTERS will be going to the polls next month to decide who will represent them at both parish/city level and at Wiltshire Council.

Elections are taking place on May 1, meaning new faces could sit on Salisbury City Council, Wiltshire Council and the various parish councils around the city by May 2.

Residents should have received their polling card already, which show the polling station they should use and key dates to bear in mind.

In Salisbury, elections are being held in: Bemerton Heath Ward, Fisherton & Bemerton Ward, Harnham East Ward, Harnham West Ward, Milford Ward Ward, St Edmund’s Ward, St Francis & Stratford Ward and St Paul’s Ward.

There are three Salisbury City Council seats up for grabs in each ward, with just one seat available in each ward for Wiltshire Council.

How to vote:

Ballots can either be cast in person at a polling station or via postal vote.

Official ID will need to be shown at the polling station – and only those registered to vote may do so.

The deadline to register is Friday, April 11.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Monday, April 14.

Polling station locations can be found on the Wiltshire Council website.

Returning officer for Wiltshire, Lucy Townsend, said: “Local elections may seem small to some, but they have a big impact.

“Your vote in local elections directly impacts your community, so I strongly encourage everyone eligible to ensure they are registered to vote.

“Voting in local elections will have an impact on who makes the decisions that will affect people’s day to day lives. It only takes a few minutes to register to vote.

“Our advice for those wishing to vote by post is to apply as soon as possible, and for everyone planning to vote on election day itself is to make sure they have valid photo ID or apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

“Veteran Cards are now an accepted form of ID and can be used in this election.

“We’ll be organising more elections in Wiltshire than most other areas in the country and behind the scenes my team will be working round the clock to ensure a smooth election process for residents.”
