Pet cat shot dead in ‘heartless’ air rifle attack

POLICE are appealing for information after a pet cat was shot and killed in what officers believe was a sickening air rifle attack in Salisbury.

The cat was found dead by its cat flap at a home in the Spire View area after suffering fatal injuries overnight on April 20.

Wiltshire Police say the animal is believed to have been shot with an air rifle in what they described as a “heartless act”.

The killing has left the cat’s owner “extremely upset” and shocked by the loss of their pet.

Officers are now urging anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour in the area, or who has information about the incident, to come forward.

Animal lovers in Salisbury have reacted with anger and sadness after news of the incident emerged, with many describing the attack as cruel and deeply disturbing.

Police have not released details about the cat or exactly where in Spire View the incident happened, but enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are appealing for information after a cat was shot with what is thought to be an air rifle in Salisbury.

“The incident happened overnight on April 20 in the Spire View area.

“The cat was found by its cat flap and had sadly died from its injuries.

“This is a heartless act which has left the cat’s owner extremely upset at the loss of her pet.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about the incident.”
