Police probe after man dies days after crash in Ferndown

POLICE have launched an investigation into a crash after a passenger in one of the vehicles involved died, nine days later.

The initial incident, involving a beige Nissan Qashqai and a blue Range Rover happened at around 1pm on Friday, September 11, on the westbound carriageway of the A31 near the Ameysford Roundabout, Ferndown.

“The collision was not reported to Dorset Police at the time of the incident as it was initially not believed any parties involved had sustained any injuries and no police assistance was required,” a police spokesperson said.

However, on Sunday, September 13, they said a passenger of the Qashqai – a man in his 80s from the Eastleigh area of Hampshire – became seriously unwell and sadly died in hospital a week later, September 20.

Dorset Police said they were made aware of the crash by the HM Coroner for Hampshire on Wednesday, September 23.

PC Jack Honnywill, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family, friends and loved ones of the man who sadly died.

“We are carrying out enquiries as we seek to establish the full circumstances of this collision, and I would urge any witnesses to please contact us.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who was travelling in the vicinity and may have captured relevant dashcam footage.”

Anyone with information about the crash should contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting incident number 55260149208, or Crimestoppers anonymously online or by calling 0800 555 111.
