Reform UK’s Nigel Farage plays pothole golf in Larkhill

REFORM UK leader Nigel Farage took a swing at potholes at Larkill yesterday (April 29) as he joined in with a spot of pothole golf.

Farage, who was visiting Salisbury to call out the Conservative-run Wiltshire Council and lend his support to local Reform UK candidates ahead of tomorrow’s elections, took the time to visit a pothole ridden street in Larkhill at the request of 19-year-old Ben Thornbury.

Ben was trying to draw attention to the poor state of Willoughby Road near the Larkhill Medical Centre and Farage was more than happy to oblige – taking the opportunity to enjoy a spot of golf in the road’s deep potholes.

However, it seems the road is managed by the MOD – not Wiltshire Council.

Ben, who previously set up a crazy golf course in potholes on Malmesbury High Street in 2023 in a bid to force Wiltshire Council to take action, said he didn’t expect Farage to respond to his request.

But Farage did more than respond, as Ben featured in a video on the MP’s social media pages as part of his war on potholes across the country.

Farage said: “[Ben] succeeded in Malmsbury in making the council take action and frankly this needs to happen all over the country.”

Ben said the publicity stunt received lots of positive reactions from passers-by, with drivers stopping to praise the pair for highlighting an important issue.

“[Farage] said the roads were awful – and even a local taxi driver came past and expressed how bad the roads were and that he was having to swerve around some of the potholes in certain areas,” he said.

“Nigel also expressed how this is an issue brought up by people everywhere he goes.”

The Wiltshire Council elections are taking place across the county tomorrow (May 1).

Farage will be hoping to cause an upset, as Wiltshire Council has been run by the Conservatives since its creation in 2009.

Reform UK is fielding candidates in all 98 of Wiltshire’s divisions for the first time this year- including Salisbury.

The Reform UK leader spoke to BBC Radio Wiltshire yesterday, where he predicted that the Conservatives vote would be “miles down”.
