RESIDENTS at The Cedars Care Home in Landford have been enjoying a heartwarming new experience after helping to hatch and rear a brood of chicks.
The eggs, supplied by Incredible Eggs in Cornwall, were carefully incubated before hatching in a brooding unit with residents, staff, families and visitors eagerly watching every stage of the process.
To add to the excitement, the home launched a competition to name the chicks.

A cracking experience!
Participants had to guess both the colour of the chick inside the egg and the exact time it would hatch.
Winning names included Scramble, Moose, Beaver, Ruby, Sylvia, Polly Pocket and the crowd favourite, Hennifer Aniston.
The chicks quickly became the stars of the home, filling reception with cheerful chirping and sparking conversations among residents as they watched the birds grow and develop their own personalities.
Pupils from Whiteparish All Saints Primary School, who regularly visit the home, also enjoyed meeting and handling the chicks.

The day was enjoyed by young and old.
General manager Anish Abraham said the project had been a huge success.
“We were so thrilled to see how engaged everyone was in waiting for the chicks to hatch and it was certainly a unique way for everyone to get involved and enjoy nature,” he said.
“The chicks brought back many memories for our residents, as many had grown up in the countryside and had experience of rearing animals from a young age.”
The home said the project not only brought joy and excitement but also encouraged social interaction and reminiscence among residents, proving that you are never too old to try something new.
