A CYCLING group in Salisbury is inviting residents to saddle up and discover some of the area’s most beautiful landscapes as part of a wellbeing festival.
The Cycling Opportunities Group for Salisbury (COGS) is taking part in Breathing Spaces, a programme of events running from June 27 to July 5, designed to boost physical and mental wellbeing through Salisbury’s green and blue spaces.
As part of the festival, COGS has organised two free sociable cycle rides, offering people the chance to enjoy gentle exercise, meet new people and build confidence on two wheels.
The first ride takes place on Thursday, July 2, with an evening route to Barford St Martin via Grovely Woods and Great Wishford.
Leaving Five Rivers Leisure Centre at 6.30pm, the approximately 16-mile route includes hills and some off-road sections, with riders promised stunning views and a pub stop for refreshments.
Then, on Sunday, July 5, cyclists can enjoy a more leisurely ride to Langford Lakes Nature Reserve.
Setting off from Five Rivers at 10am, the quieter 10-mile route will include time to stop at the reserve’s café and visitor centre before the return journey.
COGS said the rides are designed to be welcoming and supportive with trained ride leaders on hand and a focus on friendly conversation as much as cycling.
Organisers hope the events will encourage more people to discover the health, confidence and affordability benefits of cycling while becoming part of a community that “looks after each other”.
Both rides are free, but booking is required.
