Serious assault triggers large scale police operation in Salisbury

POLICE have been carrying out extensive searches across parts of Salisbury after a woman was seriously assaulted.

Officers were called to an address in Firsdown at around 4.45pm yesterday following reports of the incident.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “At 4.45pm today, officers responded to a report that a woman had been seriously assaulted at an address in Firsdown, Salisbury.

“No arrests have been made at this stage, however, extensive searches are currently ongoing and those living in the local area may see a heightened police presence during the evening as enquiries continue.”

Residents across nearby areas reported a significant emergency response as the search operation unfolded.

Armed officers were deployed and a police helicopter was seen overhead as part of the ongoing enquiries.

Footage of the bomb squad entering Spire View has also been circulating in social media.

People in areas including Bishopdown and surrounding neighbourhoods described road closures and an increased police presence, with some reporting being temporarily asked to remain indoors or leave their homes while officers carried out searches.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that no arrests had been made, with investigations continuing.

The force has not released further details about the circumstances of the assault or any potential suspects at this stage.
