A LONG-AWAITED community project has finally come to life in Tidworth, as residents gathered to celebrate the official opening of the town’s brand new allotments.
The launch, organised by Tidworth Town Council, saw people come together in bright sunshine to mark the occasion – with a surprise twist overhead.
Just as the celebrations were getting underway, an Apache helicopter roared across the sky, adding an unexpected but fittingly dramatic moment to the day.
While not part of the official schedule, it certainly gave attendees something to talk about.
The allotments have been more than six years in the making, with the project requiring sustained effort and commitment from both past and present councillors, as well as the town clerk, to bring it to fruition.

Now complete, the site offers residents the chance to grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers, while also creating a shared space for the community to connect, unwind and enjoy the outdoors.
The opening event was described as a real success, with strong turnout from residents keen to see the finished result and celebrate a project that has been years in the planning.

Town council representatives thanked everyone who attended and supported the development, highlighting the sense of community spirit that made the day so special.
With plots now ready for use, attention turns to the months ahead, as gardeners begin planting and nurturing what is expected to become a thriving and colourful addition to the town.
For many in Tidworth, the new allotments are more than just a place to grow produce – they are a symbol of patience, teamwork and the power of a community coming together to make something lasting.
