A SALISBURY gym has closed “permanently” due to the costs of maintaining the facilities, an email to members said.
The news was delivered in an email to members of Sports Direct Fitness, in Summerlock Approach, on Monday.
“We are writing to inform you that regrettably Sports Direct Fitness – Salisbury will close permanently today (Monday, December 11) and will not be re-opening,” it said.
“We are really saddened to deliver this news, despite our attempts to keep the gym trading, sadly the costs to maintain the facilities has made it impossible for us to continue.”
Members who hire lockers at the gym were advised to collect their belongings before 1pm today (December 12), or to email gymsupport@everlastgyms.com to arrange collection no later than December 17.
“We want to take time to thank you for your support and loyalty,” the email added. “We are continuing to open new clubs under our Everlast Gyms brand and as such, hope to see you in the future at one of our sites.”
Everlast Gyms are run by Sports Direct Fitness, after Sports Direct acquired the Everlast Worldwide brand in 2007.
The Sports Direct brand is now known as Frasers Group Plc, owned by Mike Ashley.
Frasers Group opened the first Everlast Gym after it bought a number of DW Sports Fitness venues in 2020 and currently operates around 60 Everlast venues in the UK.
Will another company take on the sports direct gym and pool as seems such a shame its just sitting there not being used. I understand when the public are trying to book sessions at five rivers they are struggling as they are booked up. So surely there’s a need for another pool and gym in our city.
