THOUSANDS of people are expected to travel to Stonehenge this month to mark the Summer Solstice and police are urging visitors to plan ahead for a safe and smooth experience.
Crowds from across the UK and around the world are expected to gather at the historic site to witness the year’s longest day, with the sun due to rise at 4.52am on Sunday, June 21.
Wiltshire Police said they were pleased to welcome visitors to the internationally renowned landmark but warned that travel arrangements should be carefully considered in advance.
Those heading to Stonehenge by car are being strongly advised by English Heritage not to drive unless parking has been booked in advance. Parking spaces are limited and long queues are expected for motorists.
Instead, visitors are encouraged to use a regular bus service running from Salisbury city centre where public parking is more widely available throughout the event.
Police have also warned that vehicles abandoned or parked dangerously on the A303 or nearby roads are likely to be removed.
Visitors are advised to check the English Heritage website and social media channels for the latest event information before travelling.
