Teams aiming to pull enormous 747 aircraft to raise vital hospice funds

A QUARTET of determined teams will aim to fly high with their fundraising for Salisbury Hospice during a special plane-pull event next week.

The Dorset Plane Pull is set to take place on August 31, with four teams taking on the challenge of dragging a Boeing 737 a distance of 50 metres.

Weighing in at a whopping 35,000kg, teams taking part are aiming to move the aircraft along a runway at Bournemouth Airport, with four groups raising money for vital, compassionate palliative and end of life care at Salisbury Hospice.

The Dorset Plane Pull was founded in 2009 by a group of friends
determined to raise funds for two charities close to their hearts.

Since then, it has grown, raising money for a range of good causes.

This year, four teams are taking on the challenge in aid of Salisbury Hospice, among a total of 36 teams taking part for 22 charities.

Louise Compton, corporate partnerships manager at Salisbury Hospice Charity, said: “We’re thrilled to have so much support for Salisbury Hospice this year, as four teams pull together for this epic challenge.

“We’ve got teams from Complete Construction Salisbury, Xeinadin, Landmarc/MOD and a team of weightlifters featuring one of the UK’s strongest men over 40.

“The event really exemplifies the incredible support for the hospice among local businesses.

“We want to say a huge thank you to the business community in Salisbury for rallying behind the hospice and being such an important part of our fundraising efforts.”

Alongside the plane pull, the day will feature food and drink vendors, live entertainment, and activities for younger visitors, “creating a fun atmosphere for both participants and spectators”, a spokesperson said.
