“Critical life-saving rescue equipment” stolen from two fire stations

Fordingbridge and Burley break-ins

POLICE are investigating after thieves targeted two Hampshire fire stations – including in Fordingbridge – and stole vital life-saving equipment.

The break-ins – at Fordingbridge and Burley – were discovered on Sunday, September 6, when staff found “critical life-saving rescue equipment used by firefighters at road traffic collisions and other major emergencies” had been taken.

It comes after the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said it had “experienced a number of break-ins and attempted break-ins at its sites”.

Danny Miles, group manager, said: “The theft of specialist firefighting equipment is reckless and dangerous and has the potential to affect emergency response capabilities putting lives at risk.

“We are doing everything we can to maintain the security of our fire stations and are working closely with our partners Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary to prevent further break ins and find those responsible.

“We are asking people to be our eyes and ears. You can help us by reporting any suspicious activity you spot near your local fire station or fire engines, particularly in rural areas.”

Anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour around the Burley or Fordingbridge stations or has information that could help find the thieves should contact police on 101, quoting 44260434912 (Fordingbridge) or 44260435175 (Burley). They can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
