TWO main Salisbury roads will be closed for up to two weeks, starting on Monday (September 30).
The move, which will see South Western Road and Fisherton Street close to traffic between 7.30pm and 6am, comes during the latest improvement works as part of the ongoing Fisherton Gateway project.
South Western Road will be closed for two weeks, for resurfacing work, while Fisherton Street will close between its junction with South Western Road and Summerlock Approach for one week, for resurfacing of the mini-roundabout.
“The closures are required to enable the works to be undertaken safely by our contractor,” a Wiltshire Council spokesperson said.
“All roads will however remain open overnight on Saturdays and Sundays during this period.
“While vehicular access will be restricted, pedestrian access along both streets will remain open and pedestrian access to all businesses will be maintained at all times.
“During the overnight closure periods, delivery drivers will be able to access Fisherton Street via Summerlock Approach, turning left to park up and make use of the loading bay.”
There will be some impact on access to Salisbury Railway Station, particularly after 11pm, when entry via South Western Road will be unavailable, they said.
Cllr Richard Clewer, leader of Wiltshire Council, added: “These overnight works represent the final significant phase of the Fisherton Gateway enhancements. We recognise the closures will cause some disruption, and we are doing everything we can to minimise this as much as possible.
“We are on track to complete the South Western Road enhancements by mid-October and would like to thank businesses and residents for their patience and co-operation in delivering these important schemes for Salisbury.
“This project, supported by the £9 million investment from the Future High Streets Fund is a key part of our plan to create vibrant, well-connected communities.”
