UNSETTLED weather did little to dampen spirits at a bank holiday Sunday fun day and music event.

Durrington Retro at the Rec, on August 30, drew bumper crowds to enjoy a feast of music and more.

And revellers were not put off by some showers, instead dancing in the rain to the likes of Disco Dion and DJ Paul Alex.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “With a slightly showery start the sun finally came out on the Sunday Funday and families were entertained by Dion, a workshop from newly formed House Of Jas, a bird of prey exhibition, the Bootleg Bugs line dancers, and Zorbing from District Sports.

“The dads finally redeemed themselves at the yearly tug of war competition after losing to the mums for the last two years.

“Thanks to one of the main sponsors, Porton Garden & Aquatics, the arena saw possibly the biggest giveaway of prizes that Durrington has ever seen. Big balls flying everywhere!”

They thanked everyone who turned out for the event, as well as sponsors, including main backer, Sapphire Utility Solutions, with funds raised on the day to be donated to good causes in the area.

“A massive thanks to BSM stagetech for providing our awesome stage, sound and lighting,” they added.

Preparations are now underway for the 2027 event, set to run on Saturday and Sunday, August 28 and 29. To get involved, email durringtonsundayfunday@hotmail.com.
