TAXI drivers in Salisbury are being warned of changes at Central Car Park due to the River Park development.
New rules on where taxis can and cannot park are being introduced.
The former Millstream Coach Park has been renamed Central Coach Drop Off and Wiltshire Council said the area is now exclusively designated for coach use, including areas without double yellow lines, such as the space in front of Elai restaurant.
“Since the recent reopening of the Central Coach Drop Off area, instances have been observed of taxi drivers parking there,” a council spokesperson said.
The council launched an education and enforcement campaign, giving taxi drivers who parked in the area advisory notices explaining the new regulations.
However, from February 3, formal enforcement will begin, and Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) may be issued to vehicles parked illegally.

Cllr Tamara Reay, cabinet member for transport and assets, said: “We are committed to ensuring that parking facilities are used correctly and fairly, particularly as part of the important changes introduced through the Salisbury River Park project.
“We urge taxi drivers to familiarise themselves with the new rule and use the designated taxi ranks available in Castle Street, Fisherton Street, Minster Street and New Canal.
“Civil Enforcement Officers will be monitoring the situation closely. Taxi drivers attempting to evade enforcement by driving away when approached may still face penalties, as taxi licence numbers will be recorded and reported for further action as necessary.
“We hope that by working together and following these changes, we can ensure the smooth operation of the Central Coach Drop Off area for its intended use.”
This area adjacent to the Restaurant and before the Toilet block had 30 minutes free parking for approximately 6/7 cars, has Legislation been passed to void this!
surely a coach drop off point and pickup point must have space for taxis! What on earth are the council playing at?
what if you are coming back to salisbury by coach and have ordered a taxi where are they meant to wait for you? another stupid idea from our friends iin trowbridge.
Surely it is a design fault to have not provided a taxi rank. Dropped off with a suitcase, possibly in the dark and pouring rain, surely the provision of a taxi rank would be sensible and hospitable
What about folks that get off coach and need a taxi because of mobility issues
So anyone needing a taxi from central carpark after arriving on a coach has to walk to a designated taxi rank in the city. Great thinking you moron.
Why am I not at all surprised
They need to learn joined up thinking. Or find alternative employment.
