FIREFIGHTERS in Wilton have been met with an outpouring of community support after raising more than £1,700 at a charity car wash – as the station itself faces an uncertain future.
Crews at Wilton Fire Station, which is currently under threat of closure, teamed up with volunteers for the fundraising event, drawing in residents from across the area.
The effort raised an impressive £1,756.05, with proceeds set to be shared between The Fire Fighters Charity and Wilton Community Carnival.

Posting afterwards, organisers said: “Wow. £1,756.05 raised today at the car wash!
“A massive THANK YOU to everyone who helped out, donated, stopped by, or even just gave us a wave of support – it truly means the world.
“Days like this show just how amazing our community is when we all come together.
“This amount will be split between Fire Fighters Charity and Wilton Community Carnival.
“We couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you.”

The event comes at a time when the future of Wilton Fire Station remains in the balance, with ongoing consultations into potential closures across Wiltshire and Dorset.
For many, the turnout was about more than just fundraising – it was a show of support for a service residents say is vital to the community.
